A photo can look different after a social platform crops it for a feed, story or profile header. Resizing helps you prepare the canvas, but it cannot guarantee that every placement will display the whole image. Check the preview on the destination platform before publishing.

Start with the placement, not a random pixel size

First decide where the image will appear: a square feed post, a vertical story or reel, a landscape link card, or a profile header. Each shape uses a different aspect ratio. Keep faces, logos and important text away from the outer edges because previews and responsive layouts can crop them.

Platform requirements change. X currently says a single photo with a standard aspect ratio between 2:1 and 3:4 can display in full; its profile-help page lists separate recommended dimensions for profile and header photos. Check the current help page for the specific placement you are using: X photo posting guidance and X profile image guidance.
